Boone County Twin Girls Win State Wrestling Titles

Olivia and Addison Messerly are tough 8th graders.

(Boone County, Ky.) - Twins Olivia and Addison Messerly, eighth graders from Ryle Middle School, now have matching wrestling state titles.

The sisters competed Saturday, February 2 in the first annual Kentucky Girls State Championship sponsored by the Kentucky Wrestling Coaches Association. The event was hosted at Broadbent Arena in Lousiville.

In the final match for the 106 lbs. weight class, Olivia defeated Woodford County sophomore Ashley Courtney. Olivia also received the most outstanding wrestler award after pinning her first two opponents before her victory in the finals.

Addison defeated senior Janie Stephens from Whitley County to win her 113 lbs. title.

Cooper High School sophomore Hannah Thompson was also victorious at the state meet at 152 lbs. 

Boone County sophomore Caitlynn Vaske was the runner-up at 120 lbs.
