UPDATE: Versailles Woman Identified As Victim Of Fatal US 421 Crash

The two-vehicle crash happened Tuesday afternoon.

Update published Wednesday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m.:

A Versailles woman has been identified as the victim of Tuesday’s fatal crash on U.S. 421.

According to Indiana State Police, Mary L. Hunt was travelling southbound on U.S. 421 near County Road 925 South when for an unknown reason, Hunt’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a box truck.

The driver of the box truck, Ronald Chigumira, of Avon, took evasive action to avoid Hunt’s vehicle, but was unsuccessful.

The vehicles collided head-on, causing Hunt, 80, to suffer fatal injuries.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chigumira was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was released.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

(Ripley County, Ind.) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident in southern Ripley County.

Versailles Fire Rescue was dispatched to the accident near the 9000 South block of U.S. 421 on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim and names of the drivers involved have not been released at this time. 

Indiana State Police, New Marion VFD, Ripley County EMS, and the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
