Update published Friday, June 13 at 7:16 a.m.:
The Boone County Sheriff's Office has released more information regarding an incident on Saunders Lane in Union.
Deputies responded to the 10700 block of Saunders Lane on Thursday around 1:00 p.m. for a report of shots fired.
It was reported that a landscaping crew was shot at by a resident.
Upon arrival to the scene, the suspect began shooting at deputies as well as officers from the Florence Police Department.
The suspect retreated from his shooting position near a window in the house and barricaded himself inside a bathroom.
SWAT was activated and the suspect refused to respond to multiple attempts from the negotiators and remained barricaded for several hours. SWAT eventually deployed gas cannisters into the residence, prompting the suspect to surrender.
The suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He was airlifted to UC Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
No other injuries were reported by responding officers, the landscaping crew, or neighboring residents and bystanders.

(Boone County, Ky.) - The Boone County Sheriff's Office has reported a large deputy presence for a report of shots fired.
Deputies responded to the area of Omaha Trace and Saunders Lane around 1:00 p.m.
There are no reported injuries at this time, but the scene remains "very active", according to the Sheriff's Office.
