Update published Thursday, October 26: The venue for longtime Lawrenceburg Community Schools teacher and trainer Ray Furney's memorial service has been switched. A large number of family, friends, and Lawrenceburg High School alumni are expected to attend the celebration of life service for Furney, who died Monday at age 74. The service was initially to be held at Fitch Denney Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg. Due to the anticipated crowd, the services have been moved to Lawrenceburg High School gymnasium. The service remains scheduled for Saturday, October 28 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Furney's family has asked that memorial contributions be made to The Cure Starts Now Foundation in memory of late LHS alum Lauren Hill. Original story published Tuesday, October 24: (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A man who was synonymous with Lawrenceburg High School athletics has died. Ray Furney passed away suddenly on Monday. He was 74. Furney was a longtime teacher and coach at Lawrenceburg High School. He also served as an athletic trainer for Tigers sports teams. Furney was a staple at most athletic events at LHS for many years. He had retired from teaching in 2014 after 36 years with Lawrenceburg Community Schools. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, October 28 from 1-4 p.m. at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, 455 Ridge Ave, Greendale, Indiana.
