Two-Year-Old Drowns In Swimming Pool

The toddler got out of a house unnoticed and climbed a ladder into a swimming pool.

(Burlington, Ky.) - A toddler drowned in a Burlington swimming pool on Saturday.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office says two-year-old Emmitt Lay had slipped out of a home on the 300 block of Rurel Court and climbed a ladder into the pool. His grandparents found him in the water minutes later.

Neighbors, including two nurses and a firefighter/EMS person, attempted to perform CPR before emergency crews arrived. Lay was rushed to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are investigating, but they do not suspect foul play. The sheriff’s office says the family is cooperating.
