(Madison, Ind.) – A Sunman man and a Madison woman are facing charges related to a theft at Wal-Mart.

Madison Police responded to a theft in progress on August 20 around 10:30 p.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, the suspect vehicle was located leaving the area on westbound Demaree Drive. It was later determined that the vehicle was being driven by Joshua Lake, 36.

According to Madison Police, Lake tried to strike a responding officer’s cruiser on two occasions before fleeing the area on Demaree Drive

The pursuit continued into Dover Apartment and eventually into the Presidential Estates Complex. Police say Lake drove through yards in the complex before striking a tree. He attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody.

According to a news release Tuesday, Lake continued to resist arrest and allegedly spit blood in the faces of officers.

He was transported to Kings Daughters Hospital for injuries sustained from striking the tree, and was later transported to a hospital in Louisville for additional treatment

A passenger in Lake’s vehicle, Kaytlynn Callis, 25, remained in the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. She is charged with Theft.

Lake faces Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Law Enforcement, Criminal Recklessness, Battery By Bodily Waste, and Possession of Methamphetamine. Additional charges are likely, according to Madison Police.
