Town of Versailles Receives Grants to Improve Roadway Safety, Water Infrastructure

The community is asked to complete a public survey regarding road safety

INDIANAPOLIS - The Town of Versailles has been awarded two separate grants to improve roadway safety and water infrastructure. 

Last week, the Town of Versailles announced they have been awarded a Safe Streets and Roads for all grant from the Federal Highway Administration. The funding will allow the town to study the roadway network in Versailles, identify issues, and develop countermeasures to improve safety for all roadway users.

Additionally, the consultant completing the study will be at both Market on the Square from 9 - noon and Music on the Square from 5:30 - 9 pm on Saturday, August 15th to talk with community members about their road safety concerns. 

On Wednesday, the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs announced 19 rural communities will receive more than $14.2 million in federal grant funding to expand community facilities and improve drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. 

Locally, the Town of Versailles is awarded $750,000 to improve aging water infrastructure by demolishing a 75,000-gallon water tank and replacing water meter pits, services lines and hydrants. 

“Federal funding should produce something tangible for the people paying into the system,” Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith said. “These awards give local communities the opportunity to turn those dollars into projects that will serve Hoosiers for years to come.”
