(Versailles, Ind.) - A South Ripley High School teacher has been arrested in Florida on a drug charge.
Karen Halcomb-Hafft was stopped by security at the Orlando International Airport on January 17.
The Orange County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Department tells the Osgood Journal that Halcomb-Hafft admitted to stealing nearly 150 of another traveler’s prescription pills. Halcomb-Hafft, 49, said she planned to sell the pills back home in Indiana.
She is charged with Trafficking in Oxycodone more than 14 grams, less than 28 grams.
According to the Orange County Clerk of Courts website, Halcomb-Hafft entered a not guilty plea to the charge on January 20.
Halcomb-Hafft teaches English at the high school in Versailles. She has been there since 1999.
The Journal reports South Ripley Community Schools have suspended a teacher with pay, but the superintendent would not confirm it was Halcomb-Hafft because it was a confidential personnel issue.
