Sunman Town Board Passes Ordinance to Change Time of Municipal Elections

All three town board offices and clerk treasurer will be elected in 2023.

(Sunman, Ind.) – The Town Board of Sunman has passed an ordinance to change the time municipal elections are held.

Under Indiana Code 3-10-7-2.9, a town may adopt an ordinance changing the time municipal elections are held for offices of the town legislative body members and clerk treasurer.

The ordinance passed on August 25 allows the next town election to occur in 2023, followed by an election in 2024 and each even-numbered year after.

Next year, all three Town Board Offices will be elected.

Each office will be designated with a number. The person elected to Town Board Office #1 and #2 will serve a one-year term starting January 1, 2024. After the 2024 election, the persons elected to these offices will serve four-year terms starting in 2025.

For Town Board Office #3, the person elected in 2023 will serve a three-year term until the next election takes place in 2026. Following the 2026 election, the office will be filled on a four-year basis.

The election for Clerk Treasurer is set for 2023. The winner will serve a three-year term. Clerk Treasurer will be back on the ballot in 2026 with the winner serving a four-year term.

All elections for town offices will be held during general elections.
