Gov. DeWine Replaces 'Stay At Home Order' With 'Stay Safe Ohio Order'

Today, Governor Mike DeWine announced that the Ohio Department of Health's "Stay Safe Ohio Order" will replace the previous "Stay at Home" order, which expires at 11:59 p.m. tonight.

(Columbus, Oh.) - Yesterday, the Ohio Department of Health’s Director Dr. Amy Acton issued a new order, extending Ohioans to stay home until May 29.

Today, Governor Mike DeWine announced that the Ohio Department of Health's "Stay Safe Ohio Order" will replace the previous "Stay at Home" order, which expires at 11:59 p.m. tonight.

The Ohio Department of Health’s new order was posted to the state's website, laying out the extended requirements and restrictions. This order incorporates the openings of businesses and services announced as part of the Responsible RestartOhio plan.

The opening of the new order reads:

"The sacrifices and incredible efforts that Ohioans have undertaken, make it possible to begin to life the mandatory requirements and restrictions that were needed during the initial phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The adjustment of these orders is able to proceed based upon the facts and the science existing at this time in Ohio, however if the situation continues to improve, then more restrictions will be lifted, and if the situation deteriorates additional target restrictions will need to be made. While government can set the baseline, it should be understood that these orders set forth the minimum acts that must be taken and if the people do more than the minimum to act safely, it will benefit everyone."

As social distancing and wearing face coverings continue to be the main preventative measures, Ohioans are encouraged to continue these safety measures.

Schools, beauty salons, gyms, and daycares will remain closed until the order is amended or rescinded.

Restaurants and bars may continue carry-out and delivery services. Dine-in continues to be prohibited.

Starting May 1, all non-essential surgeries and procedures can resume as normal.

On Monday, May 4, manufacturing, distribution, construction, and general office environments may reopen. Strict guidelines will continue to ensure the safety of employees. Businesses are asked to continue having employees work from home if possible.

Retail will be the last to open on Tuesday, May, 12.

"This Order shall remain in full force and effect until 11:59 p.m. on May 29, unless the Director of the Ohio Department of Health rescinds or modifies this Order at a sooner time and date. To the extent any public official enforcing this Order has questions regarding what services are prohibited under this Order, the Director of Health hereby delegates to local health departments the authority to answer questions in writing and consistent with this Order.”
