(Versailles, Ind.) - The Indiana State Police including the Versailles District will join more than 250 other law enforcement agencies across the state for Operation Pull Over Blitz 70-Over the Limit, Under Arrest March crackdown. The target of the stepped up patrols will be those motorists who are operating their vehicles while impaired.
Beginning Friday, March 2 and running through March 18, troopers will work overtime to conduct high-visibility enforcement activities designed specifically to identify impaired drivers. These stepped up patrols could include saturation patrols and sobriety check points. Motorists will also see an increased number of patrols looking for aggressive drivers and unrestrained motorists during the 17-day mobilization.
In March 2010, there were 50 fatalities on Indiana roadways. Of these, 28 percent involved a driver who was legally intoxicated. According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, alcoholic beverages continue to be assigned as the primary factor in more than one-third of alcohol related collisions in the state of Indiana.
Operation Pull Over Blitz 70 is a statewide enforcement effort supported by federal funding allocated to the Indiana State Police from the Traffic Safety division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. To learn more visit www.StopImpairedDriving.org.
