Southeastern Indiana REMC Announces 'Co-op Days' in Celebration of National Co-op Month

Events are designed to reflect the cooperative's long-standing commitment to strengthening the communities it serves.

(Osgood, Ind.) - In honor of National Co-op Month, Southeastern Indiana REMC (SEI REMC) today announced the launch of "Co-op Days," a series of community-focused initiatives throughout October. The events are designed to reflect the cooperative's long-standing commitment to strengthening the communities it serves, rooted in its 1939 founding principle of neighbors working together. This month-long celebration will bring that principle to life through tangible acts of service that address local needs in health, wellness, and basic necessities.

These initiatives are a direct expression of the cooperative principle "Concern for Community," translating the co-op's values into meaningful action. The key events include:

• Cookies with the Co-op: Members are invited to stop by the SEI REMC lobby throughout October to enjoy complimentary cookies as a small token of appreciation. It’s a simple way to say thank you and share in the spirit of Co-op Month while connecting with neighbors and staff.

• Fill the Truck Food Drive: SEI REMC is inviting members to help fight hunger by donating non-perishable food items. To inspire a friendly competition, donation totes decorated with an SEI REMC truck will be labeled for each of the cooperative’s seven service counties and placed at the front office in Osgood. All donations will directly support local shelters and food pantries, providing essential assistance to neighbors in need.

• Mobile Mammogram Program: In partnership with St. Elizabeth Healthcare, SEI REMC is bringing life-saving health screenings to the community. The Mobile Mammogram Unit will be onsite at the SEI REMC office in Osgood on October 13 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., offering convenient access to essential preventative care. Appointments are required. 

• Safety Spooktacular: On Saturday, October 18, SEI REMC will host a family-friendly fall festival at the headquarters in Osgood from 6 to 8 p.m. This “Safety Spooktacular” event will feature trunk-or-treat, a touch-a-truck experience, a hay maze, and other seasonal activities designed to entertain while also promoting safety awareness for all ages.

• Co-op Comfort Kits: SEI REMC employees will volunteer to assemble "Co-op Comfort Kits" filled with items for warmth, hygiene, safety, and encouragement. The completed kits will be delivered to local organizations providing comfort and care to individuals and families facing hardship.

This commitment to community action is a core part of the cooperative identity, a sentiment echoed by its leadership.

For 86 years, Southeastern Indiana REMC has been an integral part of the region's fabric. The cooperative was formed in 1939 when neighbors came together to bring electricity to rural homes and farms that others would not serve. Today, that same collaborative spirit drives a modern mission: to not only deliver reliable electricity and high-speed fiber internet but also to power lives and empower communities. The support and participation of SEI REMC's more than 27,000 members are what make these community-focused initiatives possible, building a stronger future together.
