By Alison Wiegand (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) -The Southern Indiana Musicians Hall of Fame inducted six individuals earlier this month. The inductees were awarded on October 1st at the Aurora Farmers Fair. The Southeastern Indiana Music Hall of Fame was established in back in 2001. The 2014 inductees include:
Harley Lee Day
Harly Lee Day was born and raised in Dearborn County. He began playing music at the age of six. At six years old, Day began playing the drums. Shortly after he began playing the drums, Day picked up the guitar and never put it back down. Day has played in multiple bands. Some of the bands Day has played in include: Hill Child, Daz, The Harley Day Band, Hot Stixx, Final Warning, Harley Day and the U Twins, Harley Day and the Storytellers, and Visual Kaos. As of right now, Day is the lead singer and guitarist for the band called 2 X 4. Harley Lee Day has written and recorded many songs in his lifetime. Phee Ellinghausen Phee Ellinghausen grew up in a musical household. Ellinghausen's mother, father, sister and brothers were extremely musically talented. Ellinghausen began playing the organ when she was a junior in high school. She has now been an organist for many churches. Ellinghausen taught elementary school children for 41 years and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Since her retirement from teaching, she volunteers at the Dearborn Clearing house, enjoys being a penpal for RSVP, belongs to several community organizations, and enjoys playing Bridge. Linda Rechtin Linda Rechtin has lived in Southeastern Indiana since 1975 and is currently a resident of Moores Hill. Rechtin is an talented vocalist and educator. Rechtin attended Crosby Elementary School and William Henry Harrison High School. Linda graduated from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, with a duel degree in music education and performance. Rechtin earned her masters degree in music and secondary education from Ball State University. Rechtin was an educator for 33 years. She continues to teach voice lessons and has done so since she graduated from college. Tim Swales Time Swales is a talented musician who comes from a musically talented family. Swales started playing drums at the age of 14 and played in the band at North Dearborn High School and was drum captain in 1969. Swales has played music for 41 years with many bands. Bev Toon Bev Toon has shared her passion for music with many students in the classroom. Toon has taught music at multiple schools but more recently she has taught music at Manchester school. Toon is serving as their choir director as well as participating on the Worship and Nurture committee at Hamline Methodist Church in Lawrenceburg. She also has started a bell choir at the church involving children ages 3 and up. Toon was one of the founders of Rivertown Players Local Community Theatre Group, and has directed the RiverTown Players Chorus for over twenty years. Toon also plays many musical instruments. Herb Winters Herb Winters was born Dec. 1938. The group that he formed, "The Country Green" entertained for over twenty years all around Southeast Indiana. The Country Green played until the early 1980s. The group played at many locations in Southeastern Indiana, including: playing at legions, VFWs, Eagles and Moose lodges, weddings and fundraising events in the area.
