(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute has awarded more than $3 million in STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant funds.

The funding will support 53 projects across the state, supporting a diverse range of local initiatives, such as paying for special prosecutors and investigators to process cases of domestic violence, training police officers to better identify situations involving violence against women, and funding victim advocates to help survivors navigate the criminal justice system.

Local grant recipients include:

  • Ripley County Prosecutor’s Office ($85,019) – The purpose of this project is to continue funding the deputy prosecutor’s position within the Ripley County Prosecutor’s Office. This prosecutor will prosecute cases related to violent crimes against women 75 percent of the time. The remaining 25 percent will be devoted to prosecuting other cases in Ripley County.

“This funding is centered on giving survivors a voice and making sure that the people who commit these terrible acts of violence are brought to justice,” said Devon McDonald, ICJI Executive Director. “Every project is a step toward building stronger, safer communities for Hoosiers.”
