(Ripley County, Ind.) - The Ripley County Highway Department is urging motorists to use extra caution around mowing crews.

"As a reminder, we ask everyone to treat mowing zones with the same amount of respect as other work zones. Put down your phone, put your hands on the wheel, and pay attention to what is going on around you," reads a statement from the department.

Motorists should slow down and be prepared to stop when approaching mowing crews.

Before passing a tractor and mower, be sure there is no oncoming traffic. Operators may have to cross travel lanes to complete their work.
