Firefighters were on the scene on Summit Drive for five hours on Monday morning.
(Aurora, Ind.) - The Aurora Fire Department responded to a working structure fire at 7 Summit Drive on Monday morning.
Upon arrival around 7:22 a.m., the residence was fully involved. Firefighters started fighting heavy fire in the area of the back porch. Additional firefighters entered the residence from the front door, and the fire was knocked down.
A resident who was home at the time of the fire received a minor burn while attempting to put the fire out. Four cats inside the residence were located but succumbed to smoke inhalation.
The area of origin of the fire was determined to be outside the residence on the back porch. The fire is still under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office. Damage is estimated at $250,000.
Fire Departments assisting Aurora were Lawrenceburg, Greendale, Dillsboro, Rising Sun, Milan, Miami Township, and Whitewater Township. Aurora Life Squad was also on the scene along with the Aurora and Lawrenceburg Police Departments and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the residents. Firefighters were on the scene for five hours.
The deli and bakery first opened in 2021.
