(Laurel, Ind.) - The Laurel Fire Department is urging community members to evacuate and shelter at the community center.
As of 11:40 PM Wednesday, water slowly beginning to make a presence in town. Areas being heavily impacted include near Bedel's Grocery. With water rapidly rising, Jackson Street is currently chest deep.

Rescue efforts are underway by fire personnel.
"We have personnel ready to respond and will provide assistance to the community center when needed. We still have personnel on station to provide updates as they come and to help operations go smoothly. As we progress throughout the night, please refrain from travel unless absolutely necessary. If you are within the impact zone, please get to a safe place until water can reside in the coming days," reads a statement from Laurel Fire.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Department says dangerous roadway flooding conditions are occurring in Laurel. Flood waters move swiftly and rise rapidly. Driving into flooded areas is extremely dangerous and may result in injury or death. DO NOT travel by car or foot unless evacuating flooded area or under an evacuation order. DO NOT walk or drive through moving water or on flooded roadways.
