NWS: Historic Flooding Possible in Franklin County

(Franklin County, Ind.) - Significant flooding is expected to take place in Franklin County. 

According to the National Weather Service, the Whitewater River is expected to crest at 23 feet today. That is three feet above flood stage. 

The NWS has indicated this could be a historic flood, with impacts potentially similar to the 1937 flood. That could include areas flooding that typically do not flood. 

COUNTY SHELTERS

Metamora Church of God - 20146 US-52, Laurel, IN 47024

  • 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝 — Please bring your own crate, leash and collar. For everyone's safety, pets must remain crated and cannot wander freely.

Schilling Center - 900 Mill St., Brookville, IN 47012

  • 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 at the Schilling Center. Pets must be housed at the Fairgrounds.

Laurel Community Center - 218 N. Clay St., Laurel, IN 47024

  • 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝 — Please bring your own crate, leash and collar. For everyone's safety, pets must remain crated and cannot wander freely.

For your comfort, you're welcome to bring:

  • Pillow
  • Blanket
  • Personal toiletries
  • Medications
  • Phone charger

PETS & ANIMALS

Pets and small animals can be housed at the 4-H Fairgrounds. Go to the new 4-H building and someone will meet you.

There will be a limited number of large and XL crates available, but residents are encouraged to bring a crate if possible. 

For your animals, please bring:

  • Food
  • Water
  • Bowls
  • Crate/kennel (we have a handful of larger/XL crates, but please bring your own if possible)
  • The Fairgrounds can also accommodate smaller farm animals.
