Relay For Life In Ripley County

The 16-hour event happens Saturday, June 15 at Batesville High School.

Ripley County Relay for Life

(Batesville, Ind.) - No days off. That’s the motto for Ripley County as its annual Relay for Life happens this weekend.

Kicking things off Saturday at 9 a.m. at Batesville High School's track, it’s more than just commemorating and celebrating the struggles cancer survivors have persevered. Each year, Relay for Life events in communities around the globe help lead the fight for a world free from cancer.

Registration opens at 8 a.m., and the opening ceremonies begin right at 9 a.m. with the three lap walk showcasing survivors and their teams.

Over the 16 hours, everyone is encouraged to come and go as they please, but don’t stay away for too long, this year they’ve added more activities to keep you entertained well into the night.

To keep the kids busy, there is a Kids Fun Run, Miss and Mr. Relay Pageant, tae kwon do and more ways for you to donate.

Evening festivities include the luminaria walk. The lanterns will fill the track and beam in the darkness while the names of cancer survivors or those who have died of the disease will be read during the ceremony. Supporters may purchase $5 luminarias through team members or at the Relay until 6 p.m.

The Glow Run 5K begins after the luminaria ceremony. Filled with glow sticks and smiles, the Glow Run brightens spirits as it leads into the closing ceremonies.
