(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – An election recount for Dearborn County Commissioner District 1 has been set for Monday, June 24.
Circuit Court Judge Aaron Negangard ruled that a public manual recount will take place on Monday at 9:00 AM at the Dearborn County Courthouse.
The ruling was made during an election recount hearing on Tuesday afternoon following Mike Lawrence’s petition for a recount.
Lawrence requested the recount after the primary election which saw Jim Thatcher receive 2,492 votes (50%) to Lawrence’s 2,464 votes (49.7%), a difference of 28 votes.
Indiana law does not require automatic recounts for tightly contested races. However, any candidate may request a recount within two weeks after the election.
Each candidate gets to handpick watchers for the recount process, which will include seasoned poll workers.
