By Mike Perleberg (Aurora, Ind.) - A Lawrenceburg woman is believed to have suffered a fatal drug overdose in the parking lot of the Aurora Walmart on April 5. “It’s a sad conclusion on Easter Sunday,” says Aurora Chief of Police Josh Daugherty. Aurora Police and the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office are investigating the case which began about 5:30 Sunday morning with a report of an unresponsive person in the car. Caitlyn Eggers, 25, had gone to the supercenter on Sycamore Estates Drive with a friend. That friend went inside to store to shop, but Eggers stayed behind in the vehicle with plans to meet up inside the store later on. Eggers never went inside and when the friend returned to the vehicle, she was found inside unconscious. Store employees, one of whom was an off-duty firefighter, tried to perform CPR. EMTs arrived and attempted to administer Narcan to revive Eggers. She was eventually transported to Dearborn County Hospital where she was pronounced dead, Daugherty said. Police say drug paraphernalia was found in the car with Eggers. If the final autopsy report determines that Eggers died of a heroin overdose, it would be the fourth such death in Aurora this year. The city has seen more than a dozen total fatal and non-fatal overdoses since January 1. Daugherty said officers will soon have a new tool in preventing some heroin overdoses. The Aurora Police Department will begin equipping officers with Narcan as soon as next month thanks to a grant by Dearborn County Citizens Against Substance Abuse. “Our EMTs are awesome, but sometimes if an officer is the first person there, they can use this,” Daugherty said.
