Update published Sunday, October 25 at 10:00 a.m.:
Indiana State Police have identified the people that were killed early Saturday morning at Summit Pointe Apartments in Lawrenceburg.
The deceased are Brandon G. Evans, 33, and Staci L. Coyne, 37.
Lawrenceburg Police arrived at Summit Pointe Apartments on Deer Run Drive around 3:00 a.m. in response to a disturbance.
Upon arriving at the apartment building, a Lawrenceburg officer was confronted by Evans, who was naked and holding a knife. The officer fired at least one round from his department handgun, striking Evans.
The LPD officer along with officers from Greendale PD and the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office attempted first aid to Evans, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
While canvassing the apartments, officers located Coyne deceased inside one of the apartments. Indiana State Police determined that Coyne was the victim of a homicide.
Investigators believe the two incidents were connected and that Evans and Coyne knew each other.
Additionally, detectives discovered that Evans had allegedly entered a different apartment in the building and caused damage inside the unoccupied apartment prior to officers arriving at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and autopsies are scheduled to be performed on Monday in Hamilton County, Ohio.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Dearborn County Prosecutor's Office for review.
