OCCF Awards Over $46K in Community Grants

Funding was awarded to 1414 local non-profits.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The Ohio County Community Foundation awarded a total of $46,442 in Community Grants to 14 local non-profits during the first grant cycle of 2024. Each organization could request up to $5,000.

The following grants were funded through Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund, created by the City of Rising Sun and Ohio County, to fund the pressing needs in Ohio County.

· Ohio County Public Library has been awarded $5,000 for a new server to keep library records saved and up to date.

· Phi Beta Psi Sorority has been awarded $1,000 towards the implementation of their 2024 Fall Card Party fundraiser.

· Ohio County Historical Society has been awarded $5,000 to purchase new chairs for events and rentals.

· People Helping People, Inc. has been awarded $4,500 to purchase canned goods to be distributed from the Rising Sun Christian Outreach Food Pantry to help feed the less fortunate throughout the year and towards support for the Ohio County Services from the Heart program.

· Ohio County Tourism has been awarded $4,500 to provide entertainment for the 2024 Rising Sun Stars & Stripes Celebration on July 6, 2024.

· Rising Sun First United Church of Christ has been awarded $4,500 to purchase can goods and personal care items to be placed in the Little Free Pantry box for those in need in Rising Sun/Ohio County.

· Voices of Indiana has been awarded $650 to provide scholarships for Ohio County students to participate in the Young Voices program.

· Rising Sun Ohio County Senior Citizen’s Housing, Inc. has been awarded $4,750 to allow wall murals to be painted by students and local artists under the guidance of the Art Director, Amberly King within the interior of the Hoosier Boy, Hoosier Girl and Hoosier Haven buildings.

· River Valley Resources has been awarded $2,060 to provide Adult Education HSE (formerly GED) testing fees and Essential Education Learning Software for Ohio County residents at the Education Center of Rising Sun.

· Ohio County Courthouse has been awarded $3,000 towards courthouse enhancements needed.

· City of Rising Sun has been awarded $5,000 to purchase a battery powered lift chair for the public pool to provide safety and help for those in need of assistance in and out of the pool.

· Rising Sun/Ohio County First, Inc. has been awarded $4,500 towards the implementation of the 2024 Rising Sun Navy Bean Festival on September 13th & 14th.

· Ohio County Youth Development, Inc. has been awarded $982 to purchase supplies needed to clearly mark the course for the safety of the tractor events during the 4-H Fair.

· Historic Hoosier Hills Resource, Conservation & Development, Inc. has been awarded $1,000 towards the implementation of The Modular Railway Project. The Christmas Train Show in Rising Sun is scheduled for November 29th – December 31st.

Donations to help grow an endowment fund established within the Ohio County Community Foundation can be made in memory or honor of a loved and are tax-deductible in most cases.
