(Milan, Ind.) - Gene White passed away on Saturday, January 24.
White is best known for being a key player on Milan's 1954 state championship basketball team. After graduation, White attended Franklin College and was a member of their basketball team and was later elected to the Franklin College Athletic Hall of Fame.
After graduating from Franklin, White served two years in the US Army. He then became a high school teacher and basketball coach, teaching at Milan, Batesville and Franklin high schools for over 40 years. Eighteen of those years were spent teaching physics and math at Milan while coaching the boys basketball team to the 1985 sectional championship.
White also taught at the college level with 25 years at Franklin College. He coached the Franklin College women's basketball team for 10 years and served as the President of the Franklin College alumni association.
In 2024, White was inducted into the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
