PHOTOS: Basketball Fans Pack Milan HS to Celebrate '54 State Championship Team

(Milan, Ind.) - This past Saturday, more than 1,000 people gathered at Milan High School to celebrate the most historic basketball state championship win in Indiana history. 

The Milan '54 Hoosiers Museum hosted the 70th Anniversary Celebration in honor of the 1954 State Championship team. 

The event brought in Governor Eric Holcomb, Former Governor Mitch Daniels, and Angelo Pizzo (Screenwriter for the movie Hoosiers), Milan players Ray Craft, Bobby Plump, Rollin Cutter, Roger Schroder, and Gene White, and Hoosiers movie actors Dr. Steve Hollar (Rade #25) and Brad Long (Buddy #14).

Static displays included:

  • Giant Celebratory Basketball and Hoop from the Indiana State Fairgrounds / Indiana Pacers
  • 1939 Chevy Hoosiers Movie Team Bus, owned by Darryll Baker
  • 1951 Chevy Hoosiers Movie Coach Dale's Car, owned by Bob Brown
  • 1950 Ford Hoosiers Movie Custom Sheriff's Cruiser, owned by Melvin Kremer

Festivities included celebrity video tributes, a round-table discussion with the Milan players, autograph session and meet and greet, memorabilia, and food trucks.
