L'burg IGA Closing, But New DeVille Pharmacy Will Stay Open

By Mike Perleberg File photo. (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A local grocery store is closing mere months after opening. IGA SuperSaver opened at the Millhouse Market shopping plaza – formerly the Dearborn Plaza – in Lawrenceburg this past May. The store abruptly closed on Sunday, September 24. Located inside the grocery store is DeVille’s Pharmacy and Medical Supply, which moved from Aurora to the Lawrenceburg location. Pharmacy owner Camille Boyken says the store will remain open throughout the closing of the IGA. The grocery store closing has also brought up questions about a grant for the shopping plaza’s owner. In 2016, the Lawrenceburg Redevelopment Commission approved an $840,000 grant for Dayton, Tennessee-based Anchor Commercial Development to support upgrades to the shopping center. Nothing has been paid from the commission to the property owner, yet. Lawrenceburg Mayor Kelly Mollaun tells Eagle Country 99.3 that the grant remains contingent on two anchor stores operating in the shopping center. Although it had been open for four months, IGA SuperSaver had not yet received a certificate of occupancy because the store did not fulfill requirements. “They were almost there,” Mollaun says. Anchor Commercial Development could still receive the grant payment if a new tenant is found for the grocery store space and receives a certificate of occupancy, Mollaun adds. Mollaun says no grant was ever awarded to IGA SuperSaver. One anchor store of the plaza, Tractor Supply Co. remains open for business.
