(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation opened doors to their four school buildings on Wednesday night to showcase facility upgrades.

Most of the improvements showcased were at Lawrenceburg High School, with portions of the school looking unrecognizable to graduates in attendance.

One of the most noticeable changes was new flooring and paint scheme. Gone are the days of outdated tile and carpeted walls, in favor of a much more aesthetically pleasing look featuring school colors of orange, black, and white, with gray as well.

Superintendent Karl Galey tells Eagle Country 99.3 that the school corporation tried to stay consistent with the color scheme within its buildings, with the exception of the newer Primary School building, so that it is easier to touch up paint and replace things as needed.

The hallways also feature new motion sensored lighting that turns off after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity. The change makes the school buildings more energy efficient.

Major changes at LHS include moving the library, or media center, from the second floor to the third floor. New science labs take up the space previously occupied by the library, and the new art suite is housed on the ground floor, where shop classes would have been held in previous years. LHS is also the home of a brand new eSports Arena that was unveiled on Monday. Other improvements occurred in the cafeteria, band and choir rooms, special education rooms, classrooms, and restrooms.

In addition, every floor has a break room for teachers, plus separate staff and student restrooms.

"When you walk through the halls and you see the new art suite, the new science labs, the new library, you're excited to go into new classrooms," said Superintendent Karl Galey. "We no longer have that carpet on the walls, we no longer have kind of those green colors within here. Its school colors, so as you walk around you feel like, as Mr. Leiker (principal) says, its the "Tiger Way". Its the orange, black, white. You feel like you are a Tiger here."

The Lawrenceburg High School updates make it look and feel like a college campus. That should come as no surprise considering the school corporation's partnership with Vincennes University. Through the Early College Program, students have the opportunity to earn college credits while they are still in high school.

"I think the importance and significance of the upgrades we've made is being able to provide the tools and the programs for the students to make sure they are competitive in today's world," said Superintendent Karl Galey. "When we're trying to prepare them to go out in the workforce, or postsecondary, or they are going into the military, we want to make sure they have the skill set regardless of which of those they choose. We wanted to make sure we had the facilities to be able to develop those skills sets and be ready."

At Greendale Middle School, the library and gymnasium mimic have received upgrades to mimic the look at the high school. The library features features an open design with flexible seating and a large window that makes the space more inviting. In the gymnasium, a new floor was recently installed, replacing the previous floor that was put down in the early 2000s. Locker rooms received a facelift, which includes single stall showers.

Lawrenceburg Primary School's new preschool wing was on display Wednesday. There are four classrooms for 3 and 4-year-old children. To be placed on a waiting list or questions you may have please email preschool@lburg.k12.in.us
