(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A new initiative has been launched at Lawrenceburg Community Schools.

Portrait of a Graduate was developed over the last year in collaboration with the community to enhance the school corporation’s commitment to equip students with the essential skills needed to succeed after graduation.

The initiative centers on five core competencies that are critical for students’ future success:

  • Critical Thinker
  • Effective Communication
  • Empathy
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance

The principles of the Portrait of a Graduate will be seamlessly woven into the curriculum and extracurricular activities across all grade levels, from preschool through senior year. As part of the initiative, the hallways and classrooms of all LCSC schools feature vibrant signage highlighting the fore core competencies, serving as constant reminders and inspiration for students.

Students will also wear t-shirts that symbolize their commitment to embodying the core competencies.

“We believe that the Portrait of a Graduate initiative will not only enhance academic outcomes but also nurture responsible citizenship, compassion, and a lifelong love for learning,” said Karl Galey, superintendent of Lawrenceburg Schools. "This is a shared endeavor, and we invite our community to partner with us in shaping the future of our students.”
