Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about sextortion.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Lawrenceburg Police Department is encouraging parents to talk to their children about sextortion.
The PD has taken several reports of sextortion in the last couple of days.
Sextortion is the practice of forcing someone to perform sexual acts, by threatening to publish naked pictures of them or sexual information about them.
Threats may include being forced to send photos, or send money, gift cards, and bitcoin.
According to LPD, many predators target young boys, but that does not mean they are the only victims.
“Please talk to your kids about this topic and check their phones/electronic devices/gaming consoles. An open and honest discussion that may be slightly uncomfortable is a minor cost to prevent the anxiety/depression/hopeless feelings that can be caused by being a victim," reads a statement from Lawrenceburg Police.
