Lawrence Will Run Again For Lawrenceburg Mayor

The former Democratic city councilman will run for mayor as a Republican in 2019.

Mike Lawrence says he is running for Mayor of Lawrenceburg in 2019.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - We have our first official declaration from a candidate for local political office in 2019.

Former Lawrenceburg City Councilman and business owner Mike Lawrence tells Eagle Country 99.3 he plans to run for Mayor of Lawrenceburg.

Lawrence was elected to Lawrenceburg Common Council for one term as a Democrat in 2011. He frequently challenged city spending and often criticized then-Mayor Dennis Carr, a Democrat. He left council after losing to Carr in the 2015 Democratic primary for mayor.

This time, Lawrence says, “I am conservative” and he’ll run for mayor as a Republican. The could set up a May primary election showdown with current mayor Kelly Mollaun.

Lawrence is pledging to cut the city’s attorney expenses and spend less money bringing people to the city. He says he wants to incorporate 25 years of business experience into running the city more efficient, while cutting unnecessary costs.

Below is Lawrence’s full announcement:

I, Mike Lawrence, will be signing up to run for Mayor of the City of Lawrenceburg in 2019. I will be signing up to run on the Republican ballot. I have owned and operated a local business for the past 25 years. I have always been involved in the community with volunteering, donating, serving on several different boards, as well as four years as City of Lawrenceburg district 4 councilman. Some of the boards served were two years on the Dearborn County Sheriffs merit board, four years as president of Redevelopment, four years on planning and zoning, as well as four years on the Lawrenceburg Schools endowment board. I would like to incorporate my 25 years of business experience into running the city more efficient as well as cut unnecessary cost and waist. I plan on being very involved with the city employees as well as the day to day operations. I plan to make large cuts to city attorney expenses as well as out of town advisors, unless absolutely necessary. If I am elected the Mayor, I will walk the sidewalks of Lawrenceburg, visit with the local business owners, and visit with employees out on job sites and stay in communication with our city employees, as they are extremely important to our great city. As well, my focus will be on our local citizens right here in Lawrenceburg and will spend as little time as possible in Indianapolis. I want to bring people to the City of Lawrenceburg with little to no cost to the city. You don’t have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to have events in town.  Lawrenceburg needs to be the focus and will be my focus. Riverboat revenues are declining and will never be like they were and we have to be prepared as a city. I will work with the council members to show them and to ask for them to pass an ordinance to save a certain percentage of gaming revenue for future emergency expenses, as well as to make sure there will always be funds to maintain the buildings and monuments we have and they continue building. I will also ask council to consider passing an ethics ordinance as I do not believe that it is right to accept anything that perhaps could persuade a vote. I am conservative and will bring those values with me if I am fortunate enough to be elected Mayor. My plan also includes to work hard on the economics of the city by bringing business to Lawrenceburg that pay wages people can support a family on. I make these promises to the citizens of Lawrenceburg.

1) I will do your business in the open. It will have to be a must for me to hold an executive session.

2) I will tell you the truth, be transparent, and do your business in public meetings

3) I will not hire any of my friends to be my secretary, city manager, or grant writer. I will use current employees.

4) I will not hire any of my family and when I do hire, it will be the best qualified.

5) I will work hard for the citizens and stand my ground when necessary on their behalf.

I am asking the citizens of Lawrenceburg to consider voting for myself on May 7th 2019 for the primary election. If you, the citizens, would like a leader that will stand up for you and put the locals first, I am your man.

Sincerely,

Mike Lawrence
