Larger Than Life: Local Realtor, Basketball Legend Bob Fehrman Dies

(Aurora, Ind.) - A lifelong Aurora resident who made a mark on Dearborn County equal to his size has died. Bob Fehrman died Wednesday, August 30. He was 80. Visitation for Bob Fehrman will be held Tuesday, September 5 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Aurora, 6060 Blair Road. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 6 at 11:00 a.m. Checking in a 6'6" tall, the Aurora High School graduate and South Dearborn Athletics Hall of Famer played basketball collegiately at Purdue University. He led a Red Devils team that was one of just two teams to defeat the legendary 1954 state champion Milan Indians. He was one of the Boilermakers’ team captains in 1958-59, having averaged 8.7 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game in his NCAA career. After Purdue and a seven-year stint in the U.S. Air Force, Fehrman came home. He founded Fehrman Realty in 1976. The company became – and still remains – one of the most recognizable realty companies in southeastern Indiana. Bob was also a past president of the Southeastern Indiana Board of Realtors, which named him its Realtor of the Year in 2008. Fehrman gave back as an elected member of the South Dearborn Community School Corporation Board of Trustees for two decades. Hi son, Brett, is a member of the school board today. Bob is survived by his son Brett, daughter Holly Allen, and three grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jan Fehrman.
