INDOT Prepared for Winter Operations

Press release from Indiana Department of Transportation

(Seymour, Ind.) - With winter weather fast approaching, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is advising motorists to use extra caution when hazardous road conditions occur.  Motorists are encouraged to make commute preparations before winter storms arise.  INDOT’s top priority is snow and ice removal, focusing on the safety of the motoring public.  The agency treats every storm event with the highest level of service.

The Seymour District conducted truck inspections throughout the month of October.  The inspections focus on mechanical components and safety equipment to ensure dependability for the winter season ahead.  The district has 175 snow plows available for clearing roadways safely and quickly.  Seymour District maintains 4,900 lane miles of state highways and interstates.  Salt and de-icing materials will be used in winter operations to minimize precipitation impacts.

Once again this winter, motorists will be able to track conditions of the roads across the state.  The website www.trafficwise.in.gov will be updated during snow events to let motorists know if road conditions are good, fair or difficult.  The information will also be available by calling 800-261-ROAD (7623).  Nearly half a million people logged onto the website to check out road conditions last winter.  In addition, INDOT provides winter driving tips and advice at www.winterdrivingsafety.in.gov.

INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a work zone.  For the latest news and information about INDOT, please visit www.in.gov/indot.
