(Delphi, Ind.) - It took over 2,000 days but an arrest has been made regarding the double murder of two teen girls near Delphi.

Indiana State Police announced today that Richard Allen was arrested last Friday and charged with murders of Liberty German and Abigail Williams.

German, 14, and Williams, 13, were murdered in a wooded area along the Monon Trail. They had gone hiking but never returned home on February 13, 2017. Their bodies were found the following day, Valentine's Day.

Because the investigation is ongoing, ISP Superintendent Douglas Carter stated that the probable cause affidavit and charge information is being sealed temporarily.

"Eventually, you'll get to see what led us to this day, but today is not that day," added Carter.

According to the Carroll County prosecutor, Allen pleaded not guilty at his initial hearing.

Allen is held without bond as he awaits a pre-trial hearing on January 13, followed by a jury trial starting March 20.

Moving forward, Indiana State Police are continuing to take tips regarding the case. Tips can be sent to Abbyandlibbytip@cacoshrf.com or called in to a tip line at (844) 459-5786.

"We would like to thank everyone who was involved throughout this investigation, which included the Indiana State Police, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Delphi Police Department, Carroll County Prosecutor’s office, United States Marshals Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and numerous other federal and local agencies. These agencies have invested countless hours and resources into this investigation. This is an active and ongoing investigation. There is no further information to release at this time," reads a statement from Indiana State Police.
