INDIANAPOLIS - In response to reports that national political figures are pressuring Indiana leaders to reopen the state’s congressional maps mid-decade for partisan gain, Senate Minority Leader Shelli Yoder (D–Bloomington) issued the following statement on behalf of the Democratic Caucus:

“Indiana’s redistricting process exists to protect Hoosiers' votes—not to serve as a tool for partisan manipulation and power grabs. Our law is clear: redistricting happens after the census.

“The idea of reopening congressional maps mid-decade—at the urging of national politicians hoping to carve out more power—is profoundly reckless and flies in the face of American values. It undermines public trust and erodes the foundation of fair representation.

“This should concern every Hoosier. Because when leaders prioritize short-term political gain over the long-term health of our democracy, we all lose.

“Indiana is not a prize to be claimed. It’s a state full of people who deserve a government that is fair to its people and earns its wins the right way—not by changing the rules.

“I sincerely hope our state’s leadership will rise above this moment—and reject any effort that puts power over Hoosiers.”

The Indiana Senate Democratic Caucus remains committed to upholding the rule of law, defending democratic institutions and ensuring Hoosiers are represented by leaders who serve the people—not political agendas.
