Indiana Casinos Handle $1.7 Billion In Sports Bets In 2020; Hollywood Handles $12M In Dec.

Even with a break in the action due to the pandemic, Indiana sports betting thrived in its first full year.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – For a portion of 2020, sports were non-existent.

Despite a stall in the sports world due to COVID-19, Indiana closed out 2020 by topping $1.7 billion in sports wagers for the entire year.

PlayIndiana.com reports four-straight record setting months for Indiana to close out the year, including a $313 million sports betting handle in December.

Indiana’s December handle created over $2.3 million worth of taxes for the state, and $24.3 million worth of revenue.

Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg was one of the more popular retail sportsbooks in the state in December. Its $12 million worth of wagers last month was the most in the state. Monthly revenue for Hollywood stood at $3.3 million for December.

Belterra Casino and Resort in Switzerland County handled $4.7 million in sports wagers, resulting in $2.3 million in revenue.

Sports betters wagered $112,013 at Rising Star Casino in Rising Sun.

There is a chance for expanded sports betting in the Hoosier state in 2021. A new bill from Senator Jon Ford aims to legalize online casinos in Indiana, which would allow Hoosiers to make wagers playing online poker and blackjack.

A push to allow video gaming terminals inside bars and restaurants is also being discussed.
