(Hebron, Ky.) - An Independence man has been charged with assault after shooting his younger brother.

David Kroth, 34, was taken into custody on Monday and charged with one count of Assault 1st Degree (Class B Felony) and Alcohol Intoxication in Public Place (Violation).

Boone County Sheriff’s deputies began investigating the incident on Sunday after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding a fight and gunshots.

Upon arriving at the scene on Phyllis Court in Hebron, deputies located shell casings in the roadway, but did not immediately locate a suspect or victim.

Early Monday morning, deputies received a report that a gunshot victim had arrived at the emergency room at St. Elizabeth in Florence.

Florence Police officers met deputies on the scene and had the suspect detained after he admitted to driving the victim to the hospital.

While being interviewed, Kroth allegedly admitted that he was “being stupid, screwing around” with a handgun and it went off three times, striking his brother, Kaz at least twice.

Kaz Kroth was treated and released.

David Kroth is held in the Boone County Detention Center on $100,000 cash bond.
