(Wilmington, Oh.) – After a week of pleasant temperatures, the summer heat has returned to the tri-state area.

With rising temperatures comes a Heat Advisory, which has been issued for the tri-state area from noon today to 9:00 p.m. this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Today’s high is 94 degrees with heat index values up to 102 expected. High heat and humidity is expected to continue through Friday with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90's the rest of the week.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Those that work or spend time outside should reschedule strenuous activity, if possible, to early morning or evening.

In addition, young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

The Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency has issued an Air Quality Advisory for Hamilton County, Ohio, Boone and Kenton counties in Kentucky and Dearborn County, Indiana until midnight tonight.

The agency expects to see levels of ozone in the ‘unhealth for sensitive groups’ range on the Air Quality Index.

On Air Quality Advisory days, everyone can help reduce ozone formation by taking the following actions:

  • Take the bus, carpool, bike, or walk instead of drive.
  • Refuel your vehicle after 8 PM; do not top off when refueling and tighten the gas cap.
  • Do not idle your vehicle; exhaust contributes considerably to ozone formation.
  • Avoid use of gasoline-powered lawn equipment on Air Quality
