INDIANAPOLIS - Governor Mike Braun signed Senate Bill 27 into law on Thursday.
The bill puts a framework into place to bring the Chicago Bears to northwest Indiana by establishing the northwest Indiana stadium authority. The stadium authority sets up a funding mechanism to build a state-of-the-art stadium in Hammond, Indiana.
The Chicago Bears have committed over $2 billion towards stadium development with the original proposal for a stadium to be built in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Chicago.
However, that proposal has not gained any traction, leading Indiana to "open up for business."
This is not a done deal yet, as the Bears organization still has to accept the proposal to move to Indiana.
