Garden Group, Church To Offer Free Fall Break Lunches For Students

Lawrenceburg area students will be able to grab a free meal at a local church during their upcoming fall break.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Students off school for fall break will be able to get free lunches while they learn about gardening and healthy eating.

SEI Community Gardens and Beecher Presbyterian Church will host free lunches at the church on weekdays Monday, September 30 through Friday, October 11, says Michelle Bunte with the SEI Community Gardens program. The lunches provided to students K-12 will run from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The church is located at 229 Short Street in Lawrenceburg.

Bunte says SEI Community Gardens will also hold a Harvest Party celebrating the end of the growing season at its five vegetable gardens located in Lawrenceburg and Greendale. The party will be at the Beecher Presbyterian Church garden site on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. until noon. A rain date is set for Sunday, October 20 from noon until 4:00 p.m.

Lunch will be provided and there will be activities for children.

Volunteers will harvest the garden’s offerings, build compost bins, plant cover crops, and prep garden beds for the winter.
