(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A recent study shows the changes in student population in Indiana public school districts.

The report, prepared by Dr. Michele Moore, Clinical Assistant Professor at Indiana University, examines the trend in student enrollment in Indiana schools as reported by the Indiana Department of Education.

The enrollment trends are analyzed over a 16-year period from 2006 to 2022.

Of the 289 school districts reviewed, 187 (65%) had enrollment declines in the last 16 years.

Locally, Lawrenceburg and Milan were listed as school corporations that have seen their enrollment increase.

Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation's enrollment has grown by 38 percent between 2006 and 2022, while Milan saw a 7.4 percent uptick in enrollment between 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years.

Two local school districts have been on the other side of school enrollment. South Dearborn and Franklin County ranks 19th and 20th for the greatest number of students lost from 2006 to 2022.

For South Dearborn, they have lost 1,036 students over the past 16 years, or 65 students per year. Franklin County has lost 1,015 students in the same time span.

Both school districts are among the Top 25 in net number losses as well as 25 percent decrease in student population.
