(Aurora, Ind.) – Two Dearborn County residents have been accused of attacking a woman at her home in Aurora. Daniel Backus, 46, of Lawrenceburg, and Stephanie L. Horn, 39, of Greendale, were both charged with Battery with Injury (Class A misdemeanor) following an incident on December 11 in downtown Aurora. According to a probable cause affidavit, Horn and Backus allegedly attacked a woman at her home at the intersection of Main and Second Street’s in Aurora. The victim told Aurora Police that the two knocked on her door, and Backus immediately grabbed her by the hair and pulled her outside. It was at that time that Horn allegedly bounced the victim’s head off the curb. The victim also told police she could hear Backus yelling, “Kill her, beat her head in.” According to court documents, the victim suffered cuts on both hands, several scratches and cuts on her face, and a large knot above her right eye. She was treated by Aurora EMS, but refused transport to Dearborn County Hospital. Although, she was eventually taken to the hospital by family members due to dizziness and lightheadedness. Horn was contacted by police following the accident. She told investigators that the woman had threatened her sister via text message, and that she told Backus to stop at the woman’s home, stating “I’ll take care of this right now.” Police say Horn advised them that she was attacked with a stick, and that she wrapped her arms around the other woman to prevent being hit any further before they both fell into the street. Shortly after the incident, police attempted to contact Backus but were informed his phone number was no longer in service. Backus is no stranger to run-ins with the law. This past March, Backus was charged with Theft and Intimidation following an incident at Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg. He also had a previous arrest in 2015 for OWI and drug possession charges.
