(St. Leon, Ind.) – Two Sunman-Dearborn Community School Corporation educators have received generous grants from the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Foundation (DCRTF).
This week, the DCRTF announced Kelly Brown and Brenda Osman as recipients of grants to support educational experiences for students.
Osman, the Family and Consumer Science teacher at East Central High School, received the Future Fashionistas Grant, which was written to provide half-scale dress forms for Advanced Fashion Student to practice their draping and design scales on a much smaller scale.
Osman shared the feedback from one of her students who said "these dress forms are such a great idea, because it is much easier to practice designing and we do not need as much fabric to develop our designs
Brown received a grant to purchase supplies for her students to grow and care for plants.
“My class is comprised of life skills students who are working on life skills as well as employability skills. I chose my Applied Adult Responsibilities Class and my Applied Life Science Class to work on this project. We had been planning since last year and they loved getting to be part of the entire process: from planning the area, ordering supplies on a budget, deciding what we would grow, putting the stands together, organizing the area, planting, using a water meter to determine if our plants needed water and how much (so that they didn’t over water them), working together to clean up, and so much more,” said Brown.
