(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A Lawrenceburg man is facing charges after attempting to flee police and an unsuccessful effort to get rid of methamphetamine during his ride to jail.

A Dearborn County Sheriff’s deputy and a detective were conducting a robbery investigation at the Hillcrest Motel on U.S. 50 near Aurora on Tuesday, April 24 when they observed David E. Power flee from a room on foot, according to a court affidavit.

The investigators chased and caught Power after a few hundred yards. Power allegedly stated that he fled because he had warrants.

As Power was being taken to jail in another deputy’s car, he allegedly tried to hide a baggie containing meth. The transporting deputy noticed that Power was moving around the entire time during the transport.

After arriving at the jail, the deputy did a routine check of the back seat and allegedly located a small plastic ziplock bag between the seat and the door. The bag contained a powder residue consistent with methamphetamine.

Power, 35, of Lawrenceburg, remains in jail on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine (level 6 felony) and Resisting Law Enforcement (class A misdemeanor).
