INDIANAPOLIS - The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) and SRI, Inc. have named a local fourth grader as the National County Government Week essay contest winner for the AIC’s Southeast District.

Luke Burke’s essay was chosen over entries from other fourth graders across the district. Burke, a student at St. John Lutheran school, received $100 for winning the contest. One winner was chosen in each of the AIC’s six districts.

This year's theme was "Favorite Indiana Governor." Essays were judged on how well students focused on their favorite Indiana Governor and the information they provided.

Burke was awarded the prize on March 26th during the AIC Southeast District Meeting in Switzerland County. The meeting also included a synopsis of the 2024 Indiana Legislative Session by AIC legislative staff.
