INDIANAPOLIS - A bill authored by State Sen. Greg Goode (R-Terre Haute) that would help Ivy Tech Community College align its programs with the evolving needs of Indiana's economy unanimously passed the Senate today.

Senate Bill 254 would emphasize the workforce development mission at Ivy Tech by updating its governance structure and responding to the state's workforce ecosystem.

"Since its inception more than 60 years ago, Ivy Tech Community College has prepared our state's workforce for the needs of employers across Indiana," Goode said. "Senate Bill 254 would strengthen the college's ability to serve as a responsive and effective partner to employers."

SB 254 adds dual credit and dual enrollment as part of Ivy Tech's mission and subject-matter expertise for the boards of the college and each campus.

"Ivy Tech is one of the largest dual credit providers in the nation, allowing Hoosier students to graduate with a degree even faster," Goode said. "I look forward to continuing my work with Ivy Tech this session and beyond to ensure it has the tools needed to prepare our workforce for their future."

SB 254 now moves to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
