Beshear Close Bars, Reduces Restaurant Capacity For Two Weeks

The governor also made a recommendation regarding the start of the school year.

(Frankfort, Ky.) - Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is taking additional steps to try and prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

At a press briefing Monday afternoon, Beshear ordered that freestanding bars close and restaurants reduce indoor dining capacity to 25 percent for the next two weeks. Outdoor patio seating can remain at 100 percent capacity as long as social distancing measured are in place.

The order will go into effect on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. and will last through at least August 11.

Failure to comply could result in business closures or additional penalties as authorized by law.

Beshear's new actions are based on guidelines from the White House.

On Monday, the governor also recommended that public and private schools wait until the third week of August to consider starting in-person instruction.
