(Batesville, Ind.) - Batesville High School (BHS) was one of only 22 high schools in the state to be named the recipient of a 2024-25 High School All-Music Award for the achievements of its entire music department by the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA), announced principal Andy Allen.

To qualify for this prestigious designation from ISSMA, both the band and choral departments had to demonstrate excellence across the entire spectrum of the events offered by ISSMA, achieving all of the following criteria:

  • Band—a Gold Division rating at any Marching Band event, or qualifying for Open Class State Finals; a minimum of one soloist in a Group I Wind or Percussion event that qualifies for State Solo and Ensemble participation; a minimum of one ensemble in a Group I Wind or Percussion event that qualifies for State Solo and Ensemble participation; a Gold rating in a District Jazz event; and a Gold rating in a High School Organization event in Groups Ill, II, or I.
  • Choir—a minimum of one soloist in a Group I Choral event that qualifies for State Solo and Ensemble participation; a minimum of one ensemble in a Group I Choral event that qualifies for State Solo and Ensemble participation; a Gold rating in a District Jazz event, and/or participation in the State Show Choir Finals; and a Gold rating in a High School Organization event in Groups Ill, II, or I.

“With more than 400 public high schools in the state, it is an extreme honor for our school to receive this award for the entire music program,” said Allen. “The leadership and commitment displayed by Dan Borns with the choirs and Cameron Everage with the bands over the past few years has led to our music programs growing in size and now, with this latest award, reputation. This is a remarkable accomplishment, and the students, parents, and directors should all be very proud.”

BHS received a banner to display at the school. More information about the BHS choir program can be obtained by emailing Borns at dborns@batesville.k12.in.us; for band information, contact Everage at ceverage@batesville.k12.in.us.
