Chris Giesting and his teammates on the HOKA New Jersey-New York Track Club ran the 4x800 relay in 7:11.30 in the final race at Sunday’s 2018 Boston University Last Chance Meet. The time breaks a four-year-old men’s indoor world record of 7:13.11, according to the International Association of Athletics Federations.
Last week I ran 1:52 at the US Championships and was in a really bad place mentally for racing. Last night I just wanted to have fun, and I split 1:47 en route of a WR in the 4x800. What a difference your mind can make!

The 25-year-old ran his two laps of the relay race at a blistering 1:47.43. Giesting graduated from Batesville High School in 2011, the same year he won the 400-meter dash title at the IHSAA Track and Field State Championships. He then went to run at the University of Notre Dame where he was part of a distance medley relay team that won the national championship at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships.
