(Batesville, Ind.) - Batesville Fire and Rescue celebrated several first responders within their department on Tuesday night.
Paramedics Lindsey Brison and Jacob King, along with firefighters Derrik Justice, Dave Krause, and Zach Fleisher were recognized by the Indiana EMS Commission with commendations for their role in an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest save that occurred on July 25 of this year.
On that day, Father Stan went into cardiac arrest. Fire and EMS crews arrived within minutes and immediately began advanced life support care. Because of their quick actions, teamwork, and training, Father Stan survived — and last night, the crew had the opportunity to meet and shake hands with the man whose life they work diligently to save.
Firefighters Scott Holmes and Derrik Justice were also recognized for officially completing their one-year probation. Both were presented with their department badge and leather helmet, a ceremony to symbolize their hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving our community.
"These moments are a true reminder of why we do what we do. Congratulations to our new firefighters on completing their probation, and to our commendation recipients on a life-saving achievement that will forever make a difference," reads a statement from Batesville Fire and Rescue.
