(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Sergio Marroquin Crisostomo has been sentenced to 38 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty last November to Attempted Rape with a Deadly Weapon (Level 1 Felony).

The charge stemmed from an occurrence on June 16, 2023, at a home in Lawrenceburg. According to court documents, the victim was mowing her lawn when Crisostomo approached and pulled her into a garage, threatened her with a knife and cutting her pants.

The victim was able to push him off her and get into her car before Crisostomo walked off.

The sentence range for Attempted Rape with a Deadly Weapon is anywhere from 20 to 40 years. After hearing evidence, Judge Aaron Negangard ordered Crisostomo to 38 years behind bars.

“The bravery exhibited by the victim in this case was astounding. Her presence of mind she possessed in defending herself against Crisostomo, along with giving law enforcement a description of her assailant was remarkable,” said Dearborn and Ohio County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens. “She is a survivor and I hope that this sentence allows her the process to heal. The Lawrenceburg Police did a great job in gathering evidence and quickly apprehending the Defendant which secured the conviction.”
